Audience responses to Jonas Akerlunds work are as varied as his colorful carer,
some people love his work, others are scared by his concepts and ideas,
one of his high profile fans is lady Gaga who has used him as director for at least two of her music videos. many find his work controversial, some even upsets, but many find it visually astonishing and creatively amazing, lady gaga herself, saying “the most amazing creative work that I’ve put together so far. It has a real, genuine, powerful message about fame-whoring and death and the demise of the celebrity, and what that does to young people.” of course it wouldn't have been amazing with jonas at the helm, but it is still a visionary masterpiece.
There was a strong reaction to one of jonas' previous videos, his controversial video for the prodigy's - smack my bitch up,
many people said the video encouraged violence towards women and was vulgar and disgusting, even though the main protagonist was a women. many praised the video for the way it subverted politically correct stereotypes showing that women were abusers too. the video was banned from public television but due to heavy popular demand MTV relented and allowed it to be aired, it became the number 1 most controversial music video in america.
"Once, you could argue there was an actual intellectual point to "Smack My Bitch Up." Now, any form of "provocation" is a game designed to generate controversy, and if you, the viewer, are cool with that, then we can all feel better about our trashier pleasures."
"Now, THIS is what I call a music video! I've seen quite a few over the top videos that couldn't be shown on MTV, but I guess Åkerlund and Rammstein go one step further - as of this writing, the XXX-rated opus is only available to see on a porn site!"
"Back in March, the pop star shot down rumors that the "Alejandro" video would be a continuation of her cinematic, pop-culture-crammed "Telephone" video, which was directed by Jonas Åkerlund. Instead, this sounds like a more artsy affair."

Interactive media platforms
The Web: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Wide_Web
the web is a widely used platform; it contains things like the BBC iplayer so that you can catch up with your programs, five on demand, YouTube. Many sites host films, YouTube hosts films in parts due to the film being too long to post in one go. Many people use the web to catch up with programs or to entertain themselves, i.e. the YouTube phenomenon Fred. Many TV programmes use YouTube to set up YouTube pages that show their videos and clips from their shows which boosts viewer numbers for the program on TV.
Email Attachments: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_attachment
Many many things get sent form email to email address, jokes, letters, work files, general catching up and staying in contact with people from around the world. Many people send each other ecards or send videos directly from sites (yahoo music you can email the video to a friend) which means that the sites get more hits as they send a link to their site with the email constantly advertising themselves.
DVD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD
Many DVDs in today’s age have interactive menus, extra bits that you can view during the film and extras like making of documentaries which you get to all through interactive click through functions. Majority of DVDs feature an introduction before they get to the menu and there are always adverts advertising other films while you wait for the film to start. The Matrix for example had a white rabbit function, you went into the features menu and turned on the white rabbit which meant as the film progressed and things started to happen, a white rabbit would pop up in the corner of the screen and if you selected it you would see a special short films/documentaries about how they done that set, or shot that scene.
CD-ROM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-ROM
CD-ROMS contain music files and sometimes pictures, more and more they are containing files that can only be reads by computers which means that when you put the CD into your computer you can view ”hidden” files. They are used in school for educational viewing or for showing documentaries.
Kiosks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interactive_kiosk
kiosks are intractive stands in tourist centers on the side of the street that have many different ways to browse around town without having to walk anywhere. they play videos, short films about the place your in and displays information about what you are trying to find out. Many compnies create media specific for this platform trying to draw people to certain points in the location of the kiosk. many of them host free internet searchs and email checking facilities, some even allow you to send free text messages and will tell you where the nearest resturant or take away is.

Task 1 - Purpose of Music Video
- Promotion
- Raising profile of the artist
- Entertainment
- Music Video Director - great opportunities...!!!
it also tells a story, a lot of the time the video having direct links to the lyrics and showing what the artist is trying to say with their song, a past music videos used to be all about telling a story, many of them wacky and wild, take queens - i want to break free, for example he told the story of a women wanting to break free from the confines of her daily life, simply by dressing as a women and singing his song.
an inspirational music video in today's age for me has to be Fall out boys video for Americas suiteheart's - It is a colorful, wacky, slightly strange and weirdly beautiful, it holds the essence of the band in that one video, it shows the influential qualities of their the world that they have created with their music and the way the band is viewed with in the world, for example Pete Wentz is known as the sand man.
The most effective use for music videos is advertisement and promotion, away for the band to get around without actually having to move, a lot of the time the band does not need an over budget flashy video to get noticed as word of mouth suffices, for example i am an avid fan of Fall out boy and i tell people about the band by word of mouth they listen to what i am saying and then go and by the album, that makes one more album sale for the band. Music videos are the visual version of word of mouth, a person will watch the video, make judgments on the bands music, their style the way the present themselves in the video and then proceed to tell their friends that they 'just have to watch this video'
the music video idea itself didn't come around until the 1980's back then they were known as filmed inserts or promotional film, what today's television adverts are referred to as, so even in the 1980'S they were classed as advertisement.
Task 2 - Contemporary Music Video Research
The opening for this video shows the Beginning of what appears to be a music video but as we draw closer you see what is really going on. if this video had to be explained in a sentence i would say, that it is about the corruption of holly wood on the world.
this video is one that, the more times you watch it the more you pick out, it has a repeatability about it, you don't get bored of watching is because it is impossible to see every thing first time or even second.
The video for the song involves various people being drastically changed by the media and paparazzi, which is what the song is said to be about. Hey Monday lead singer Cassadee Pope with Tony Chaw makes an appearance in the video. Clips of the band performing in exaggerated circus costumes on a carousel are shown throughout the video to emphasize the strange qualities of the world they are in.
Pete Wentz the bass player has said that the music video was inspired by director Federico Fellini, as well as the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Each band member's costume represents a character from various lyrics on Folie à Deux:
* Stump: Mr. Benzedrine (from "20 Dollar Nose Bleed")
* Wentz: Mr. Sandman (from "Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet")
* Hurley: Donnie the Catcher (from "What a Catch, Donnie")
* Trohman: Horse Shoe Crab (from "The (Shipped) Gold Standard")
fans have received the video well many describing it as their favorite fall out boy work so far however many have found the video disturbing and strange, depending on how you view the content it can be both, it can be weirdly beautiful and strangely disturbing, however it is hard to get over the idea of the lead vocalist wearing lipstick, if like me you are a fan it is an strange idea to you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzddyeXvbSE
a lot of the comments refer to the video and the genius of the band and a lot of the comments refer to the way teenagers are stereotyped.
This video is at first confusing and dosnt seem to have any real refrence to the lyrics, many coments i have read say that apprently the song has something to do with losing your virginity but i hinestly cant hear it.
it is a mix of summer solstice and little pixie girls running around in the woods and makes for a rather annoying video, florence seems to be to much of the showman rather than a story teller (that is if theres a story to be told), i find the video to be far to simple for the over complicated song. it makes you question what is meant to be happening especially when it comes to the memorial/funeral as there has been no indication or mention to death or anything of the variety, it seems that the emotions are fake enough to be noticed on the screen and the candle light vigil at the lake side as the table turned coffin floats away makes no sense with the song, i can find no relation between audio and visual, and no relation between lyrics and visuals either. all in all a bad video.
fans however have different tune to sing for this video,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nxO-yPQesA
many of them giving praise for florence and the machine and the video its self, one of them saying that it looks like a fairytale, that analogy i agree with but still the video seems a tad pointless.
